Ayikoi Otoo Criticizes NDC'S Shortcomings

On October 18, 2024, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Nii Ayikoi Otoo aired his views on how the NDC is handling its political tactics, especially in Parliament. According to him, too much talking in public has become a main weakness for the NDC, allowing their opponents in the NPP to effectively counter whatever they do.

In an interview on Eyewitness News, Ayikoi Otoo prescribed the strategy of the NDC suffers from their penchant to discuss their plan openly in the media rather than keeping things under wraps until the time is right, pinning the recent example involving the Speaker of Parliament's ruling declaring four seats vacant. Even before the matter had been formally brought up by the NDC for parliamentary debate, they had already publicly announced their intention to have the four affected MPs removed.

According to Otoo, this was premature commentary that gave the NPP sufficient time to prepare themselves for a legal counter-attack. This saw the Supreme Court immediately intervene and stay the execution of the Speaker's ruling. Otoo noted that political strategy should be more circumspect, urging the NDC not to be too loud but tactically silent as it handled its business.

He said the approach of the NDC was not only counterproductive but invited the injunctive relief of the NPP in court propelled by fear and with a desire to preserve their parliamentary majority. According to him, the NDC acted out of low strategic thinking and provoked their opponents into unnecessary resistance.
