To nurture this talent, Yale University offers the prestigious Yale Young Africa Scholars (YYAS) Program. This initiative empowers African students to become leading voices in their fields, driving positive change and progress.

ABOUT THE YALE YOUNG AFRICA SCHOLARS(YYAS) PROGRAM 

The Yale Young Africa Scholars Program is a rigorous academic and professional development opportunity for Senior High School students planning on pursuing tertiary education and who wish to make meaningful impact on the continent.
Participants will enhance their knowledge, skills, and networks, returning to their home countries as catalysts for innovation and growth.

PROGRAM DETAILS 

In 2025, the YYAS will offer two programs;
  • Online College Prep Workshop
  • Residential Leadership Summit (Kenya)

Students can only be admitted to ONE of the programs. There's NO COST for participating in any of the programs.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Yale African Scholars Program 2025 is open to African citizens who are:
  • Between the ages of 14‐18
  • Proficient in English language ( sessions will be conducted in English)
  • Permanent residence of an African country 
  • Currently attending school in an African country 
  • In the 10th or 11th grade or its international equivalence.

NOTEIf you have already graduated High School or if you are in the University, you are not eligible to apply. 


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

There are limited number of travel grants for students living outside Kenya who apply to attend the residential leadership summit in Kenya. Each applicant will be automatically reviewed for the study grant and later be informed about whether or not the grant was offered to them.


APPLICATION DEADLINE 

The deadline for applying is 20th January, 2025.
