Akufo-Addo Says Mahama is a “Class One President” and Not on The Same Level As Bawumia

President Akufo-Addo, on his final campaign tour before his term ends, visited the Ahafo Region. In his speech to the public, he stated that former President John Dramani Mahama, the presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is not on the same level as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in terms of class.

According to Akufo-Addo, Mahama's tenure was just one term, therefore he regards him as a “class one president.” He explained that since Mahama served only one term, he does not want Bawumia to debate him.

President Akufo Addo also stated boldly that Dr. Bawumia will continue for another term after winning the upcoming December 7 elections. When he does, he will join the “hall of fame” for presidents who served two terms, citing Former President Kufuor, Former President Jerry Rawlings, and himself as examples.

For a bit of background on this situation, some months back, Bawumia challenged Mahama to a live debate on the economy, governance, and policy, which Mahama did not agree to. Recently, Mahama posed five questions to Bawumia regarding the economy, such as the rise of inflation and the depreciation of the cedi. Bawumia responded with 50 questions, including why the NDC opposed the free SHS policy and why the NPP boosted the health sector more than the NDC did. Both presidential candidates have refused to give direct answers to each other's questions.
