Akufo-Addo Boldly Claims He Has Fulfilled 80% of His Promises
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has bragged that he has fulfilled 80 percent of his campaign promises, ensuring to underline the achievement his government has had as he prepares to exit office. This, according to President Akufo-Addo during his recent "Thank You" tour in Takoradi, was an assurance he gave in emphasis of major initiatives, especially in the area of education, as transformative legacies he trusts would ensure Ghana's future. His support for the candidature of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to replace him as president, therefore, means he is hell-bent on ensuring that whatever momentum he has built is kept going throughout his administration.
One of the high points of the presidency of Akufo-Addo is undeniably the Free Senior High School program. Since the implementation in 2017, the policy has provided free tuition for all secondary school-going children in Ghana and opened up opportunities for many families, who, otherwise, had to bear the costs. Akufo-Addo revealed that, prior to his administration, more than 100,000 junior high school graduates every year could not enroll in senior high school due to financial difficulties, a number that in ten years totals one million students. He, therefore, argued that the Free SHS policy has preserved the future of these students and, in effect, that of the nation.
Besides education, Akufo-Addo spoke to other fulfilled promises from the NPP's 2016 and 2020 manifestos. These range across infrastructure, health, and job-creating initiatives. He called on Ghanaians to take cognizance of these achievements and consider continuity in these policies by supporting Bawumia at the upcoming elections.
