OVERVIEW

kua Kuenyehia Foundation (AKF) is a Ghana-based non-profit organization established by the children of H.E. Judge Akua Kuenyehia, the first Vice-President of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands. The foundation was created in recognition of her achievements and dedication to justice and education.

AKF is devoted to empowering young women and girls in Ghana through access to formal education. The foundation seeks to inspire a passion for learning among Ghanaian girls, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, while also instilling a strong commitment to community service. Through scholarships and mentorship programs, AKF provides opportunities for academic excellence and personal development.

FOCUS AREAS 

 Education Support

  • Provide merit-based scholarships to academically gifted but financially disadvantaged Ghanaian girls, supporting them from senior high school to university.

Training and development 

  • Implement leadership training and community engagement initiatives that encourage recipients to give back to society.

Mentorship

  • Equip beneficiaries with essential life skills, fostering confidence, assertiveness, and personal growth.

  • Establish a mentorship program linking scholarship recipients with accomplished Ghanaian women, offering guidance, and a strong support system.

Career guidance 

  • Offer exposure to various career paths and create networking opportunities to help beneficiaries establish professional connections.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 

To be considered for the AKF scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a female and a Ghanaian citizen.

  • Must have completed junior high school (JHS) or senior high school (SHS) in Ghana.

  • Must demonstrate strong academic performance and active participation in extracurricular activities.

  • Must provide evidence of financial need, proving that their guardian(s) cannot afford their education.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND REQUIREMENTS 

Applicants are required to submit the following:

  • A personal statement/application letter introducing themselves, including their full name, educational background, family circumstances, and reasons for requesting financial assistance.

  • Copies of BECE results and school transcripts.

  • Copies of WASSCE results and school transcripts (if applicable).

  • Applicant’s contact number.

  • An alternative contact number (parent or guardian).
