According to an NGO, 1 in 4 females in the Upper West Region marry before turning 18
To eliminate significant barriers to girls' education and teen pregnancy, Life Again, a non-profit organization, commemorated the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child (IDG) in the Upper West Region. Focused on "Girl's Vision for the Future," the event brought together around 300 girls from various basic schools, including special schools, on October 11, 2024.

“On average, Ghana records 107,000 teenage pregnancy cases in girls between 10 to 19 years. Of which 20% of this number go back to school, with the remaining 80% turning to be mothers. In Upper West Region, 1 out of every 4 girls get married before she turns 18years,” Madam Saudatu revealed.
Madam Saudatu Mohammed, the chief executive officer of Life Again, urged the girls to dream big and aim high. She raged that Ghana is not providing the necessary attention to the problems of adolescent pregnancy and child marriage, which is why the number of cases in the country is rising.
Madam Charity Batuure, the Department of Gender's Upper West Regional Director, urged girls to better organize their lives since it will help them grow up to be responsible.
"You have to forge your own route in life. You should have a vision and put a lot of effort into achieving it before you carve your own route," she advised. According to her, the girls have 98 percent control over how their lives turn out, while society relies on 2% of their labor.
