Aging is a natural proces and everyone is bound to go through it at some point, but that doesn't mean we can't age gracefully. As we grow older, our bodies undergo a range of changes that affects our physical appearance, energy levels, and overall wellbeing. While some of these changes, are inevitable, there are still certain habits that can help us maintain a youthful appearance. From drinking the right quantity of water in a day to eating a good balanced diet—these habits and many others though simple are effective and can help us defy time and embrace a healthier, happier life as we grow.
- Habit 1—Hydrate Well: Water is essential for maintaining plump, smooth skin. When we are dehydrated, our skin can look dull, tight and wrinkled. By drinking at least 8 cups(64 oz) of water a day, you can keep your skin hydrated and supple, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Water also helps to flush out toxins and waste products from our bodies which can reduce the risk of getting age-related diseases.
- Habit 2— Sunscreen is your Best Friend: Protecting our skin from the sun's harmful UV rays plays a huge role in preventing premature aging. Too much exposure to UV rays can cause wrinkles, dark spots, and even skin cancer. Incorporating the use of a broad spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 as part of your daily routine is a must. Apply the sunscreen to all exposed parts of your skin including, face, neck, feet(if exposed) and hands, and reapply after every 2-3 hours or immediately after swimming or sweating.

These foods are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that promote healthy looking skin, hair and nails. Aim for at least, an apple or orange a day with whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat bread.

Aim for at least 10-30 minutes of moderate intensity exercises, such as brisk walking, cycling or swimming daily. - Habit 5—Enjoy your Beauty Sleep: Getting enough sleep is essential because it allows our bodies undergo repair and rejuvenation. Try to get at least 7—8 hours of sleep each night to help the skin regenerate, reduce puffiness and improve blood circulation.
- Habit 6—Manage Stress: High stress levels increases the production of cortisol which can cause wrinkles, gray hair(not that gray hair is a bad thing), and a tired outlook or appearance in general. Chronic stress can also cause age related diseases like hypertension and diabetes. Practice stress related activities like slow deep breathing exercises to help manage stress and promote relaxation.
