40th National Farmers’ Day Celebration Aims to Advance Climate-Resilient Agriculture
This year, the 40th edition of National Farmers' Day will fall on Friday, November 8, 2024, and is scheduled to take place in the Greater Accra Region. The theme for this year's celebration will be "Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security," pegged around the changing need to make agriculture resilient to the threat posed by climate change.
This therefore compels the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to declare festivities into the National Agricultural Fair christened Agrifest Ghana 2024, running from November 4 to 8. The fair promises to be a platform for showcasing Ghana's agricultural innovations and sharing best practices among stakeholders, as farmers across the country unite to promote sustainable farming techniques.
This is reflected in the increased focus on climate-resilient farming that will characterize the 2024 celebration. Like many of the globe's countries, Ghana is experiencing the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns, erratic rainfall, and rise in temperatures that put a dent rather in food production and food security. Today's focus underlines the urgent need for adaptive agricultural strategies that ensure long-term productivity while protecting the environment.
However, the National Awards Night to recognize the selected farmers for their dedication will be the climax of the celebration. Notably, there will be the Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, and National Best Female Farmer, signifying their important role in ensuring that there is food on everybody's table.
This year's event, which has been moved to November due to the upcoming general elections, remains a critical occasion for promoting innovative and climate-smart practices that will help advance Ghana's agricultural sector in response to a rapidly changing climate.
