$1.4 Million in AI Innovation Grants for Climate Change Mitigation – APPLY NOW!
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are increasingly recognized as powerful tools in the fight against climate change.
From enhancing energy efficiency and sustainable agriculture to improving climate modeling and disaster response, AI and ML have the potential to drive significant progress in both climate change mitigation and adaptation.
However, the full potential of AI in climate action has often been limited by the lack of data, infrastructure, and interdisciplinary knowledge transfer. Moreover, the relationship between AI and climate change is complex, with AI applications having the potential to either support or hinder climate action. Therefore, using AI in climate initiatives requires a thoughtful approach that prioritizes impact, responsibility, and equity.
$1.4 Million in Climate Change AI Innovation Grants
The Climate Change AI Innovation program is offering grants of up to $150,000 per project, for a total of $1.4 million in funding. These grants are intended for 1-year projects that leverage AI or machine learning to tackle climate-related challenges. Grantees are required to publish a documented dataset or simulator, making their findings publicly available to advance further research.
Grant Tracks:
-
Main Track: Projects should utilize AI or ML to address issues in climate change mitigation, adaptation, or climate science, with a focus on impactful deployment.
-
Methane Special Track: Projects should focus on using AI or ML to mitigate methane-related climate challenges in the short to medium term (before 2040).
-
Dataset Gaps Special Track: The primary focus should be the creation of a new dataset or simulator by gathering, labeling, or simulating data to facilitate future research.
Projects must result in either a deployed solution, scientific publications, or other public dissemination of results. All intellectual property (IP) generated through the grant, including datasets, simulators, trained models, and methodologies, must be made publicly available under an open license.
Eligibility and Application:
Each project must have a Principal Investigator (PI) affiliated with an accredited university in one of the 38 OECD Member Countries. Duplicate submissions across multiple tracks may result in disqualification.
Apply Now! The application deadline is September 15th, 2024. For more information and to submit your application, visit Climate Change AI Innovation Grants.
